Ever since Hollywood headed to Bangkok with the cast of The Hangover II hanging out on a Bangkok rooftop bar, they’ve been the hottest nightlife destinations in the Thai capital. With creative drink lists, an imaginative atmosphere, and killer views, having at least one drink at a sky-high bar should be on every visitor to Bangkok’s must-do list. We tried out a couple, including the infamous Hangover II Bar (otherwise known as Sky Bar), but the brand new ZOOM at Anantara Sathorn gets our vote for best Bangkok rooftop bar.
Bangkok isn’t exactly what I would call a beautiful city, but when the sun sets on the urban jungle and the highrises are lit up in a rainbow of colors, there’s something alluring about taking it all in from high above. Anantara’s new Zoom boasts the only 360º cityscape views from a Bangkok rooftop bar.
On the 40th floor of Anantara’s Sathorn hotel, Zoom offers an eclectic menu of French Mediterranean and some Asian plus a wide selection of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. It should also be said that the prices of the drinks at Zoom won’t make you want to toss yourself off the rooftop bar.
Zoom wasn’t officially open on our first visit, though guests of the Anantara Sathorn were invited to enjoy it. We invited Derek of The Holidaze Blog to join us for drinks and we all enjoyed the amazing views. We’d just landed in Bangkok a few hours earlier and too exhausted from two days traveling, Zoom was the perfect setting. The music wasn’t so loud that we couldn’t easily have a conversation and we had lovely views of all the lanterns floating in the sky since it was also the Loy Kratong festival.
Nearly two weeks later we were back at Zoom for the official opening party and we could really experience Zoom in full swing. Chicly designed, the open-air bar has a split-level wrap around terrace with uninterrupted views of Bangkok. High bar chairs line the edges or grab a stool at the central light bar where mixologists are pouring drinks. Or get away from it all and step down to the lower level to find a bit of sexy seclusion on the over-sized couches that are tucked away into little coves.
Zoom is open nightly with sunset cocktails and stylish tapas and dinner available from 5:30pm. It’s a happening nightclub scene once the resident DJ starts spinning tunes nightly from 9pm – 1am and on Wednesdays, live saxophonist Khun Aht plays.
Located in the heart of Bangkok, Zoom at Anantara Sathorn is easily accessible and conveniently located near both both the BRT and BTS stations. For reservations, call +66 2 210 9000 or email: [email protected].

Tapas at a rooftop bar in Bangkok? Hell yes! That sexy/romantic lower level sounds especially inviting.

Nice photos Jen. We went to the nearby Sky Bar at the Lebua hotel – like you say, Bangkok is not beautiful but any city of that size is impressive at night.

Looks like a fab bar! It never occurred to me to search out such a place for drinks in Bangkok – guess I’ll just have to go back!

THERE IS ONLY ONE ROOFTOP WINNER IN BANGKOK – SKYBAR @ LEBUA

Hi Rajan,
Glad to hear you enjoyed Skybar at Lebua. We did not. We found it to be overcrowded and overpriced. It may have been made famous by the movie The Hangover 2, but there are far better rooftop bars in Bangkok.
